Bio: Abigail Lewis-Bowen
Abigail Lewis-Bowen began her career at IBM in 1995 as part of the fledgling www.ibm.com Internet team. Her work there included leading the global rollout of the common design template for www.ibm.com, and managing and promoting the use of User Experience design standards and templates. During her time with ibm.com, she was also a lead for innovative Web events, including the 1997 Kasparov vs. Deep Blue Chess Match, and the first online quarterly earnings analyst presentations for the IBM office of the CFO, beginning in 1997.
From 1999 – 2006 Abigail was a member of the IBM Corporate Intranet organization. There she lead the enterprise search program; defined common content management templates and elements; and managed Intranet User Experience Standards for the entire corporation. She also managed the creation and governance of the first IBM Enterprise Taxonomy.
As part of the IBM Intranet team she regularly advised IBM customers on strategy and governance best practices for Portal and Intranet management.
Following maternity leaves, Abigail returned to the workforce as a consultant, evaluator and strategist for the Intranet Benchmarking Forum. At IBF, she evaluated member Intranets and also contributed to the IBF research program on topical Intranet management issues.
In August, 2008 Abigail took a full-time position managing Portal and Collaboration for Johnson & Johnson’s global Procurement function, where she will be overseeing a Sharepoint deployment and driving “real” collaboration across the function.
Abigail’s professional interests include Intranet and Portal management, governance, processes and strategies for Intranet success, as well as applied User Experience design. She holds a BA in French from the University of Connecticut and an MS in Information Management from Syracuse University.
